SUBJECT: MORE ABOUT EZEKIEL'S VISIONS
II
Introductoey Statements
Judas betrayed Jesus to the Jewish Religious Authority, and the Jews turned Jesus over to the Romans who consented and crucified Him.
Can it be possible the LORD God would not have allowed Rome alone to sacrifice\ crucify Jesus without participation from the remnant of Israel (Judah of Israel; the Jews)? Even though they had trampled the Covenant under foot, only they were Covenant holders on the Planet with God until Dispensation (6)? Refer to “Dispensations”.
Joh 19:10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Joh 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Three (3) Situations Ezekiel Spoke of and Prophesied Would Come to Pass in Israel’s Future According to Ezekiel’s Visions:
-
The Northern Kingdom’s fall from ever being a Nation again (which resulted from the 722 A.D. Assyrian destruction; 1 & 2 Kings)
-
The Southern Kingdom, Judah of Israel in their disobedience and iniquity (i.e., idol worship and rejecting Jesus) in their “unbelief unto ignorance” sacrificed Him, the Lord of Glory at His first coming. But in their fall from obeying the will of God, they accomplished the will of God when they crucified Jesus, which was planned from the foundation of the world; whereby the sinful race of men can now be saved!
-
Judah of Israel, seemingly being in agreement with some Christian’s interpretation of New Testament Scripture, is on the path\ track to fuel\ support another Abomination of Desolation, again (Refer to the paragraph, “Abomination of Desolation” )!
There is high anticipation and expectation today that the Jews (Israel) shall “start again” animal sacrifices (rejecting the sacrifice of the LORD God like as the time of Judah & Rome’s crucifixion of Jesus? Consider Matthew 24:15)!
Would this be as Moses striking the rock in the wilderness a second (2nd) time? And can this possibility be the trigger for the following:
Jesus second (2nd) appearing for the Church Rapture and fullness of the Gentiles is come; restarting the count of Daniel’s 490 years upon Israel, and bringing to end the final 70th week of the Daniel Chapter 9 prophecy?
Remember, the LORD Jesus left Israel and allowed the 70 A.D. destruction and dispersion of Judah of Israel throughout Nations of the world until 1948 A.D., because their leaders (religious and secular) rejected Him; “their Promised Messiah, savior of the world, and Lord of Glory”! Shall Israel (Judah of Israel) strive to reject Jesus a second (2nd) time, resulting in Abomination of Desolation?
III
Ezekiel Chapter 44:1 through 44:5
Ezekiel’s vision of the time when the east gate shall be shut after the LORD God takes up residence in His place for the Temple on Earth just as in Heaven. Therefore, shall the role of a “wood, brick, stone, mortar” Temple will have change at this time (i.e., because no animal sacrifice(s) are ever needed again)?
He, the Lord Jesus shall come in by way of the east gate.
Therefore, it seems this Ezekiel Chapter 44 and Chapter 46 could be exchanged in sequential order rather than as Ezekiel provided them here in his Prophecy?
Then he (the Spirit of God) brought me (Ezekiel) back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it (the east gate) was shut.
Then said the LORD unto me; This gate (the outer east gate?) shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut (Is this verse more than just figurative of conveying that there is none other to come fulfilling the work of salvation decided from the foundation of the world?).
It (the east gate) is for the prince (this is specific to David when the east gate is shut never to be opened again?); the prince (David), he shall sit in it (the east gate) to eat bread before the LORD; he (the prince, David) shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate (the east gate), and shall go out by the way of the same (or same way). (Refer to the graphic illustrations; “Temple & Graphics Associated with Ezekiel 40 through 48 Vision(s)”, and “Israel’s Land Possession Along with the Temple Complex, Ezekiel 40:1 thru 48:35”.)
Ezekiel 44:1 through 44:3
The glory of the LORD is present; thus, Ezekiel in his vision recognizes that the LORD is in His place of the Temple now fulfilled, according to prophecy
Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house (Temple): and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD: and I fell upon my face.
Be watchful, and look for the arrival of Jesus, the LORD God
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering (or every arrival) in of the house, with every going forth (or leaving/ departing) of the sanctuary.
It is obvious that all of Ezekiel’s writings on his prophetic visions touches\ encompasses many, many years of the Judeo – Christian Bible Timeline and Events! And note that this seems to be the case for every major prophet truly called of the LORD to their office of “Prophet”!
Ezekiel 44:4 and 44:5
Ezekiel Chapter 44:6 through 44:15
The Lord GOD instructs Ezekiel to show Israel their iniquity\ abominations now and that which is yet to be fulfilled according to this vision of Ezekiel’s Prophecy
And thou (Ezekiel) shalt say to the rebellious, even to the house (Nation) of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O ye house of Israel, let it suffice you of (or be enough, and end now) all your abominations,
In that ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers (priest and worshippers of false gods and idols like the Northern Kingdom\ Samaria), uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my house, when ye offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant (hence the LORD God planned for a new covenant in Jesus, His own Son) because of all your abominations (this is not only saying that the Jews (Judah of Israel) have brought Gentiles into the Temple; but the Jews themselves have become strangers (priest of false gods and idol worshippers), and uncircumcised of heart in their abominations).
And ye have not kept the charge (responsibility, I the LORD demanded) of mine holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves (or as you have seen fit, like Jeroboam I of the Northern Kingdom\ Samaria\ Ephraim? See 1 Kings 12:25 through 12:33.).
Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
And the Levites that are gone away far from me, when Israel (like as when the Northern Kingdom?) went astray, which went astray away from me after their idols (and images; false gods worship); they (the Levites) shall even bear their (the Northern Kingdom’s?) iniquity.
Yet they (the Levites) shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge (responsibility) at the gates of the (Temple) house, and ministering (care takers for the people?) to the house (Temple): they (the Levites\ Israel’s leaders) shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice (is this talking about both the animal sacrifices of Moses as well as Jesus, Messiah? If so, this would seem to mean the Levites\ Jews were required to be responsible for the sacrifice\ crucifixion of Jesus!?) for the people, and they (Levites\ Israel’s Leaders) shall stand before them (the people) to minister unto them.
Falling away from genuine dedication\ commitment to the will of God according to Moses, and in their iniquity they unwittingly did the will of God; sacrificed, or crucified Jesus (because the Levites’ task as God commanded was to conduct the sacrifice), which the LORD God planned from the foundation of the world to save them that would believe the witness of Jesus according to John 3:16!
Because they (the Levites) ministered unto them (the people) before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them (during the time of Ezekiel the Babylonian destruction and exile for 70 years was the punishment; & after their rejection of Jesus the 70 A.D. destruction and scattering of the Nation by the Roman Empire was the second (2nd) punishment until 1948 A.D.), saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.
Yours truly is persuaded some might think these previous two verses (Ezekiel 44:11 & 12) are unfair as to how these issues were worked out for, or against Judah of Israel. But think for a moment; Judah is in disobedience, and this has been the case for quite a while! Also consider the Prophet Isaiah’s words:
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isa 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (And so, the Levites\ Leadership of Israel sacrificed as Commanded Moses, which defined the LORD’ sacrifice according to Law (i.e., Dispensation (5). And the Levites\ Leaders of Israel sacrificed Jesus at His first (1st) appearing, which facilitated fulfilling of the LORD’ sacrifice according to His Love, Grace, Mercy, Faith and Forgiveness (i.e., Dispensation (6))!
And (during those times of Judah’s punishment) they (Levites\ leaders of Israel) shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
But (then) I (the LORD) will make them keepers of the charge (responsible) of the house, for all the service thereof, and for all that shall be done therein.
But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok (priest from the sons of Aaron identified during the time of Solomon), that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:
Question(s); is this referring only to that time after Israel’s return from their Babylonian captivity and exile? Or is this also referring to any event of time after God returned them to the land after 1948 A.D., And if so, will this not constitute the Abomination of Desolation Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24:15; because (if, when) Israel shall have rejects Jesus the second time?
Because the “Hellenized agreeable Levites\ Leaders” permitted Antiochus IV (Epiphanies) to committed Abomination of Desolation in 167 A.D., We understand from that event Abomination of Desolation has to do with, “mishandling of the Sacrifice of the LORD God” at any time\ for any reason? See “Hellenized” at this link .
Ezekiel 44:6 through 44:15
IV
Ezekiel Chapter 44:16 through 44:31
The priests are commanded to conduct their ministry duties as the LORD requires; not as they imagine, or see fit
These verses, 44:16 through 44:31 are according to the original instructions of Moses for the Levites:
They shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister unto me, and they shall keep my charge.
And it shall come to pass, that when they enter in at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with linen garments; and no wool shall come upon them, whiles they minister in the gates of the inner court, and within (places of the Temple?).
They shall have linen bonnets upon their heads, and shall have linen breeches upon their loins; they shall not gird themselves with (or wear) any thing that causeth sweat.
And when they go forth (leave the temple area to go) into the utter court, even into the utter court to (where) the people (gather), they shall put off their (ministry) garments wherein they ministered, and lay them in the holy chambers (near the Temple), and they shall put on other (ordinary) garments; and they shall not sanctify (minister to) the people with their (ordinary) garments.
Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer (or allow) their locks (hair) to grow long; (but) they shall only poll (shorten the hair of) their heads.
Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.
Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away (divorced): but they shall take maidens (a never married woman) of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had (or was married to) a priest before.
And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
And in controversy (or disputes) they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments (of the LORD God): and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow (make holy) my Sabbaths.
And they shall come at (or touch) no dead person to defile themselves: but (or except) for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may defile themselves.
Ezekiel 44:16 through 44:25
Restoration of the priest to ministering duties after having been defiled
And after he is cleansed (according to Leviticus Chapter 21?), they shall reckon unto him seven (7) days.
And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord GOD.
And it shall be unto them for an inheritance: I am their inheritance: and ye shall give them no possession in Israel: I am their possession.
They shall eat the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; and every dedicated thing (given, and/ or offered from the people) in Israel shall be theirs.
And the first of all the firstfruits of all things, and every oblation (offering to God) of all, of every sort of your oblations, shall be the priest’s: ye shall also give unto the priest the first of your dough, that he (the priest) may cause the blessing to rest in thine house.
The priests shall not eat of any thing that is dead of itself, or torn, whether it be fowl or beast.
Ezekiel 44:26 through 44:31
=========================================================
Only a short while after this time Ezekiel is informed that the Temple and City of Jerusalem have been destroyed. This was also the third (3rd) and final siege by Babylon upon Judah of Israel as follows:
And it came to pass in the twelfth (12) year of our captivity, in the tenth (10) month, in the fifth (5) day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying,The city (Jerusalem) is smitten.
Also the account of this event of the destruction of Judah of Israel (the Southern Kingdom) is record by 2 Kings 25:1 through 25:10.
Ezekiel 33:21
=========================================================
V
Even those that understand the ways of God might say, “But these are the chosen people of God, why would He allow their destruction?” Well consider this:
The people are fully sold out to iniquity, idol, and false god worship!
The LORD God has sent prophetic warning after warning that they must repent and return to Him, but they have not returned.
At this time the chosen people of God are in the condition where they are self devouring; which means they can not continue forever as God promised Abraham; they are of no use to themselves, and certainly very little use for the witness of God to the Gentile World!
And so this is the time God chooses to begin again, by vacating/ purging the land; cleansing, and teaching a remnant of the nation again, concerning Him, while they are in Babylonian captivity\ exile!
We today, need to take notice, and not loose sight that the complete plan of God is to offer eternal life to the world using this Covenant People, Israel!
One could also make the case that the LORD God began again with National Israel a second (2nd) time after the resurrection of Jesus. At that time He (God, the Lord Jesus Christ), established the Church that now includes salvation for Gentiles, and He allowed destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple this second (2nd) time by the Roman Empire in 70 A.D. And no Jewish Temple has existed in Jerusalem since that time.
A third (3rd) and final beginning shall take place again (i.e., Dispensation (7)) the thousand (1000) year reign of Peace by the Lord Jesus Christ, according to Revelation Chapters 20 and 21.
And even though Zerubbable, in his appointed time of ministry, years after Ezekiel, dedicated a second (2nd) Temple in 516 B.C., there is little evidence that the LORD God came to it in His glory as He did the Temple of Solomon, until the New Testament, and Gospels of the Lord Jesus Christ performing great signs, wonders, miracles, and declaring “the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, or is here”! These works witnessed\ supported the messages Jesus preached during His Ministry!
Today we have the record that most of the Jews (and especially religious leaders) rejected Jesus at that time, and assisted\ encouraged the Romans in His Crucifixion, and\ or Sacrificing Jesus!
But all is not lost for Judah (the Jews), and Gentiles that believe and embrace the massaging and works of Jesus, and honestly waits for His second (2nd) appearing; to Rapture the Church first, and collect the remnant of Israel during the final days of Daniel’s 70th week! The first will have become last, and the last first.
Let us not forget to mention that Zerubbable’s Temple was the same temple Israel (Judah of Israel) participated in desecrating about 167 B.C. with Antiochus IV Epiphanies; ruler of Syria.
And even though Ezekiel would not physically see the rebuilt second (2nd) Temple dedicated by Zerubbable in 516 B.C., Ezekiel prophesied of his vision about a future Temple:
VI
Ezekiel’s Vision of the Temple after Solomon’s Temple
The time of this prophetic vision is for (or point to) post 586 B.C. Babylonian destruction of Judah and before another temple (the Temple of Zerubbabel) was dedicated in about 516 B.C. Thus, we should consider the possibility whether this vision of Ezekiel’s is of the rebuilt Temple by Zerubbable; Herod’s Temple at the time of Jesus, which was a refurbishing of Zerubbable’s Temple. Or is it possibly, the temple that is measured in Revelation 11:1 and 11:2; or as some Bible experts believe, “the Millennial Temple” during the thousand (1000) years of peace when the Lord Jesus Christ reigns (Dispensation (7) of Righteousness and Peace)?
Now, I would not argue to the point of disrespecting anyone; about this Temple in Ezekiel’s vision, but consider my reasoning as follows:
Commentary to consider for Background, Question, and Analysis
Remember, Jesus has fulfilled the animal sacrificial practices of the Mosaic Law. But we have seen that some say these practices may indeed be activated again, and/ or resumed as described in Ezekiel Chapter 46. But then in Ezekiel Chapter 44:1 through 44:5 we see that the Lord Jesus (Messiah) is come to the Temple, and the east gate is shut up for all time, which (to me) signifies the millennial reign and beyond?
If Ezekiel’s prophecy is not about the Temple of Zerubbable, or the remodeled Temple of Herod, I believe Jesus shall not be pleased at the practice of animal sacrifices, and/ or any temple dedicated to a false god(s) on the Temple Mount when He returns.
Perhaps the case can be made that a central building may well be present in Jerusalem where consultation with the nations shall be conducted about the affairs of unconverted millennial souls (if any survived and exist after the Great Tribulation described in Revelation Chapters 8 through 19:10). But the building thought of by some as the Millennial Temple; however magnificent, shall not be more significant (or of greater necessity and importance) than the presence of Jesus; the grace of God unto eternal life. The building would have no holiness except it speaks\ represents the presence of God! But at that time, is not Jesus the presence of God?
Can Sanctuary in God be Sanctuary in Two Places at the Same Time? I and My Father are onr!
Or shall it be that men are expected to believe that at the appearing of Jesus, when we are able to touch and examine the scars of the cross (the scars of His payment for sin for the whole word) in His body; the Temple building is to be of equal or of greater necessity? FOLKS, THE JEWS HAVE GONE DOWN THIS ROAD ALREADY; rejecting Jesus and His work of salvation! But this is what some (not just Jews) believe today; and without any witness or understanding that a Temple structure alone can provide salvation! Study Zechariah Chapter 5; it is about the crucifixion of Jesus fulfilling the animal sacrifice.
Keep in mind that the tabernacle and temple represented Jesus, until He should come to the Planet the “First (1st) time” (but Jesus never represented the temple; some times I think we get this reversed). Is this relationship of Jesus verses the Temple not true; whether true or false; if false whether false all the time!
What say you?
Ultimately, Jesus shall be the only Sacrifice & Temple at Jerusalem: The only avenue\ way of communicating and pleasing God, and he is the law; Temple, and Sacrifice(s) fulfilled.
The prophecy of Zechariah Chapter 14 shall not be broken because Jesus is the Temple at Jerusalem, and He is all the sacrifice needed; but yet alive for ever more (the living Sacrifice and living Temple)!
I hope my reasoning is not confusing, but beneficial; and not argumentative to the point of disrespect to any long held traditional position(s)! I certainly intend to be helpful, and my only motive is clarity of truth unto the only eternal salvation, which is in the Lord Jesus Christ, alone.
If all the previous worship structures have been a figure of Jesus and His place (the Temple, Tabernacle, High Priest and Sacrifice) communicating\ interceding with God for men, then will there even be a need for a millennial temple, for animal sacrificing, made of created things, any time after His sacrificial work is finished?
What need shall there be for resuming such sacrificial practices of what Jesus fulfilled, and God the Father removed by the Roman Empire in 70 A.D.? And make no mistake about this, those practices were removed by God, just as He discontinued (made empty\ desolate) Judah of Israel 70 years by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. In other words this is not as if the incident(s) “just happen so”; this is the LORD’ purposeful doing(s)!
It would also seem a temptation to the people for imagining shared credit of animal sacrifice along side Jesus for salvation\ deliverance; just as some struggle to understand and see correctly today that animal sacrifices are desolate. Judge my assessments!
The real (the Lord Jesus Christ) previously pointed to by these figures in worship is happened (and sacrificed) since the last 1990 years or so [i.e., 2024 A.D., - 34 A.D. (approximate date of His crucifixion\ resurrection) = 1990 years]!
My reasoning is also influenced by Revelation 21:22 even though those verse does not speak specifically to the millennial reign.
But we know from scripture, saints of God shall be on earth with Jesus during the millennial reign, as well as having been given access to heaven through\ (by) Jesus?
Jesus is the ultimate communication\ access between God and man (i.e., being both God and man). He is the “real” that was pointed to by the figures (high priest; animal sacrifices; tabernacles and temples made of created things, and that relied upon human hands). What roll does the figure serve after the real is come, and we are with Him wherever He may be?
Again, what say you? Judge my assessments!
I am persuaded that if any animal sacrifices should indeed occur as seemingly declared in Ezekiel Chapter 40 through 48 shall be that period of time in Revelation 11:1 through Revelation 19:10, because the magnificence’s of this temple in Ezekiel’s vision appear to surpasses any of the other previous worship structures; even Solomon’s Temple. And any prophecies in Ezekiel’s vision that do not pertain to animal sacrifices shall be fulfilled in the millennial reign, and beyond!
Today in this Dispensation (6) of Grace\ Mercy the Covenant of God to the Planet is not maintained through animal sacrifices as of old; but the one time sacrifice of the man, the Lord Jesus Christ (whether we understand and believe; OR NOT)!
Now, consider the possibility that Jesus, upon His return in Revelation Chapter 19, might destroy any existing temple on the Temple Mount, dedicated to\ used for, any false god; or even this temple of Revelation 11:1 and 11:2 (which seemingly could be the temple of Ezekiel vision) if it should exists there; both (temple and any leader(s) inside) could be taken away\ destroyed?
Since Jesus is the Temple and Sacrifice; prophetic scriptures that would apply at that time are as described in Zechariah Chapters 5 & 14; Matthew Chapter 24; Daniel Chapter 12:12; Revelation 16:15 & 16:16; and\ or Revelation 19:11 through 19:21.
Every time the Jewish Temple in the past (even the tabernacle at Shiloh: See references - Joshua 18:1, Joshua 22:10 through 22:34, 1 Samuel Chapter 4, Psalms 78:60) suffered loss; it was because Israel (being the covenant holders with God) conducted practice (or lack there-of), and\ or participated in the mis-handling of the LORD Sacrifice unto Temple desecration(s), pollution(s) and abomination(s) of desolation(s). Recall David’s error concerning the census!
Today, I am persuaded this would include conducting animal sacrifices any time, for any reason after the “sacrifice, death, and resurrection” of Christ Jesus, Yeshua, Adoni, [Hey, Vav, Hey, Yod]! Daniel 9:27 is speaking of this abomination of desolation, which may or may not involve the man of sin! But Israel is required to be involved else the violation might be questionable. Blessed is He (the Lord Jesus) that comes in the name of the LORD (Jesus said this, especially for the benefit of unbelieving Israel)!
More Analysis & Question:
Christ Jesus shall not sacrifice a second time, but shall it be that He will sacrifice the Figure(s) of the past that represented Him (i.e., a fitting end for the Mortal Temple along side mortal men?)
Moses was instructed to speak to the rock (a figure\ type of Jesus crucifixion) the second (2nd) time Israel complained out of thirsting for water in the desert (Numbers 20:8 through 20:12); but Moses was angry at the people and struck the rock instead, which displeased the LORD God. The result of this event was that God did not allow Moses and Aaron to enter the Promised Land!
Therefore, is beginning animal sacrificing again, at a minimum, as displeasing to the LORD God as this action by Moses and Aaron in Numbers?
And might even this be the abomination of desolation Jesus is referring to in Matthew 24:15 & Mark 13:14, rather than as some believe, “the man of sin violating a kind of treaty between sinful men” with Israel (who at that time might still be in disobedience concerning the sacrifice of Jesus; also consider the possible number of agreements/ covenants Israel have been part of with other nations and broken throughout the centuries of their history)? Jesus shall not sacrifice a second time. Therefore, Moses should have only spoken to the rock; not strike it a second (2nd) time!
But we live in the time of the Dispensation (6) of Faith, Grace, Mercy, and Forgiveness when we fall into error (this applies even to the Jews of Israel)! Refer to, “Dispensations” .
Now then if Jesus destroys this temple of “wood, stone\ brick, mortar”, shall the prophecy which declares, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will build it up”, become a duel prophecy (i.e., His sacrifice\ resurrection and the destruction again of the “wood, stone\ brick, mortar”), which no one understood, nor anticipated during declarations of His Ministry?
Thus, shall it be that the millennial Holy Place (whether Heavenly Temple or ordinary man made building) will have been made manifest without lasting penalty to the Jews’ disobedience! Do you suppose the LORD God could bring such a thing to pass, if He chooses? After all,
God brought Israel back into the land while they remained in punishment for their disobedience; Israel’s error concerning Jesus (the Mercy of God\ Dispensation (6) of Grace)! Can we recall what Jesus said to the disbelieving Hebrews; “you shall not see me again until you say blessed is He that cometh in the name of the LORD”?
VII
The Sign that Jesus Gave of the Temple’s Destruction (John 12:18 & 19)
Mar 14:55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
Mar 14:56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
Mar 14:57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
Mar 14:58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. (The witnesses of this verse Mark 14:58 were the only witnesses in agreement that they all heard Him say this, but the other witnesses could not agree about their witness!)
Joh 2:13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
Joh 2:14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
Joh 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
Joh 2:16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
Joh 2:17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
Joh 2:18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
As much as is humanly possible for us to understand, Jesus is making a similar statement we are already familiar with, when He said to the Phrases, “I and My Father are one”; or we could also say, “one and the same”! This is something every Christian has wrestled with, and of us all, most continue wrestling(s)!
But I’m reminded again of Isaiah Chapter 55 verses 57 through 59, which say the following:
Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I am persuaded the Temple is as much the same as Jesus as Jesus is the same with the Father; else what did He mean when He said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up”?
Those that heard these words from the mouth of Jesus during His Ministry could not get their head around what He was saying\ meaning then, any more than most of us can today! And so, most of us now (Christian, Gentile, and Jewish) can only see the way forward with a Jewish Temple made with hands on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem!
But I am persuaded again, it is clear the final Temple shall NOT be made with hands (of wood, brick, mortar, and stone), which decays!
Consider Ezekiel’s visions in Ezekiel Chapters 1, & 8, and their associated descriptive activities. It is because of these visions described of Ezekiel we understand the LORD God did not only make use of “Chariot, Stone Tables, Moses’ Staff, the Cross, the Temple, Arc of the Covenant, the Arc of Noah’s flood, the budding of Aaron’s rod\ dead stick, and such from natural things (but super natural also), when He exercised His purpose in the past, and now! Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Matthew 26:61, Mark 14:58, John 2:19, John 10:30
